Finally nice to be back on the water to teach. Yea, I have had time to get out, but fly orders, tree damage and working on the private water was enough to keep me busy. Rob and Mark and I hit the water at 8AM and fished to around noon. It was sunny, calm and 68 degrees. We did not see much hatching and only a spotty rising trout or two. The water was in great flow, stained and 62 degrees. With that said, a quick lesson. With these new digital and laser thermometers, they only take surface temperatures. True water accuracy in 4” and lower keeping the thermometer in the water for at least 2 minutes. Mark just spined fished while using flies. Kind of neat how he set it up. He rolled one and landed a small brown. Rob wanted to learn how to fly fish since he moved here. He learned much during the morning and landed two on nymphs and had two dry fly takes. That was a fun morning. We have the best summer flows in years and cool water temperatures backing it up. Happy 4th. to all of you.
