SCPA stream report, 05/14/25
I hope this helps. I have been moving trips and still getting calls. Yes, the area has been hit with a large amount of rain. Look on the bright side which I will get into later.
Most of the freestone and limestone influenced streams will be unfishable for at least a few more days. Some of the smaller brook trout tributaries will be fishable in a day of so. The true spring creeks, Letort, Big Springs and Falling Springs are fine.
Once the water levels drop we will have some amazing trout fishing into mid-July! I have over 30 years of stream flow and water temperature records. Many anglers over the past 10 years have been use to low flows. If these flows subside and remain, it reminds me of how we used to fish them and had the best of trout fishing. Plus, the past few years we seen water temperatures pushing 67 degrees. From the Yellow Breeches to Antietam, I recorded water at 49 to 51 degrees. That is incredible for this time of year. The bugs are hatching, but expect to fish nymphs till the streams clear up.
I still have openings in June. Antietam is filling very quickly. And July could possibly be the best July trout fishing I have seen in 8 years if this weather patterns continue.
