Antietam/ Red Run, 05/18/25 to 05/19/25

So the now not so newlyweds were back again for their anniversary trip. James and Lori love it so much it is going to be their annual fishing trip. James still just wants me to focus on Lori. She has not been out since our last spring trip. I was not gonna even work on casting with her. This was a fun trip and she nailed in on the simple ways to fly fish that I teach. The water could not have been better both days. It is around 3.0’, clear to stained and 54-58 degrees. Some caddis, sulphurs were hatching, but so much food is below the surface the bite continues with nymphs. So for 2 1/2 days we fished nymphs off indicators and they did outstanding. With the cold water still the wild browns are taking so light. With that said Lori had two of the biggest browns pop off that she will ever have on a fly. I know the one would have just fit in my net. James as well got into our famous big wild browns, but as he said, “Now time to learn how to fight a big angry wild brown trout”. All in all they landed a bunch of trout in their stay. They enjoyed the fact that we allow a section for farmhouse stay fishing and they went out on their owe. James sent me pictures and they landed several and Lori put a nice 16” rainbow in the net. It was such a great two days out on the water with them.
