Red Run, 05/11/26

Phillis met me at 8:30 AM and we fished to 1 PM. It was cloudy and 46 degrees. Phillis was a student at the Orvis school and wanted a little more time to refine what she had learned. She is a great caster of the fly, so I pushed her to a new level. Red Run was clear and 50 degrees. Nothing but a few craneflies on the water. I took her to Red Run so she could see could cast in tighter situations. As we worked some runs, I explained how to side-arm, cross-chest so you can easily fish tight water. She did fabulous! Lost a nice one and landed two rainbows. And our water still makes for crazy stories. Phillis stuck and landed a very nice, thick 16 inch brown. During the fight, a brown which was twice the size of the brown she had on, decided a 16” brown was going to be nice lunch. We watch this unfold with our own eyes as the beast mouth opened wide and took a bite of what we were trying to land. After that the run went dead as other trout scurried to safety. I guess the “Waterlord” of this run was unhappy to be awoken this morning.

If you’re interested in June through fall, it it time to get on the calendar.
