Antietam, 10/17/25

I met up with Alan and Bob at the farmhouse at 8AM and we fished just till 4PM. It was quite the chilly start of only 39 degrees and warmed to a sunny, breezy cool 66 degrees. The water is fair flow and 51 degrees. I could not believe the amount of tan caddis flying along the banks and the October caddis I saw during the day. Still not much rising. So we set off with nymphs and it was a long 3 and 1/2 hours with just three strikes. The wild browns could be seen, however were just not interested. So with it being close to spawn season, think like steelhead fishing. I found several holes where the browns were stacking up within two of our sections of water. Finally got into some small browns and a rainbow, then at least 15 wild browns from 16 to 21 inches. We worked for them and I’m resting the water and until we get rain letting it alone except for what is booked.

With my Orvis Endorsement the water has and will now book faster than ever next year. So think ahead and get a trip on the calendar for 2026.
