Antietam, 03/27/26

Wasn’t sure what the day would be for Sharron and I. We thought about another day, but we were there, “Fish On”. We had over a 1/2 inch of rain and it finally stopped as we hit the water just after 8:00am. The water was stained and at 2.7’. Water was 50 and by days end was 48 degrees. It was cloudy all day and cooling down from 53 to 45 degrees by 3PM. It was a day of indicators and nymphs. Sharron new how to fly fish! Worked with her with her mending and that was about it. Antietam showed itself today. Sharron picked up a few nice rainbows, but it was just that one. A “Welcome to Antietam” trout. She set the hook and I knew this was going to be something special. I told her she had just hook a beast. She did not even realize till it broke the water a minute before I got it in the net. After a 7 minute battle, a huge brown was laying before us. It ended up being 25 inches and 4.2lbs!. That was an incredible day with 7 in the net. April 25 and 26 is still not taken. That could be someone else’s turn at these incredible Antietam trout.
