Yellow Breeches, 03/30/24

I met up with Kim and her son Kyle for a morning 1/2 day of learning how to fly fish. We started their adventure into fly fishing at 8:30Am and finished by 12:30. It started out sunny and 40 degrees. By noon is was getting overcast and 56 degrees. The water was clear and 47 degrees. Both had never touch a fly rod, so we started with the false cast. Once that was looking good I showed them a roll cast. Kim and Kyle picked up on it well. We hit the water for about 40 minutes. At this point, I did see some Grannoms and a few trout on the rise. Sticking with the basics, we fished with indicators and nymph rigs. Kyle missed two had 1 on. However I was with Kim and tried to get her talked into keeping the line tight on the trout while I was getting to him. Kim missed two, but she started her fly fishing on a high note. We got a nig brown in the net and man the excitement. What an enjoyable morning and welcome two new fly fishers to the stream.
