Antietam/ Red Run Private Water, 03/29/24

My first guide on the private water and it did not disappoint. Met up with Phil and his son Nate at 8AM and we fished until 4PM. Fisher was asked to come along since Nate was very new and just in case he stuck a big one and I was not around him. Nate was more than new. I walked downstream and Fisher was doing a casting lesson with streamers. They moved two browns while I watched. By the end of the day, Nate was casting 40 feet even with the wind. It was 36 degrees when we started and a little breeze. It warmed to 56, but 20 to 40 MPH winds set in. The water was clear, perfect flow and around 10AM it warmed into the high 40’s it was game on. Phil and Nate landed some big rainbows and a nice almost 20 inch brown trout. They also lost a few 17 to 25 inch trout. Fisher and Nate stayed on Antietam, but Phil was interested in Red Run so we hit that. That water was 53 and clear. We found many rising brown trout taking BWO’s and crane flies. Phil loved Red Run. We stuck 7 wild browns 10 to 15 inches. All trout were taken on nymphs today, but had many streamer follows and one around 25 inches get off. It was a great time, even fighting the wind. Nates simile with that big trout will be one to remember. As he said, “These trout fight harder than the steelhead they were just fishing for.
