Yellow Breeches, 07/25/25

I have been on the water more than you think. Just keeping stream reports down to the quickly changing water temperatures. I have and I am still guiding half days only and the earlier start the better. Thankfully looks like a big swing in air temperatures come next Thursday. Those high 50’s to mid-60 degree nights will really lower the water temperatures. So seeing that we had a window to fish Gene and I set off at 7:30AM and fished until 10:45AM. I quickly knew Gene had been fishing for quite a while. Very gifted of a fly fisherman. The water was fine and trout were still active, but the relentless sun and humidity just finished us off. Nothing was hatching and the water was clear, 64-66 degrees. Most all the fish were water released, but we did get two we took a very quick picture of. Have the phone ready! We fished nymphs which picked up a nice brown which Gene said that was his best brown ever. It was almost 17” and the another nice 15” rainbow. We had about 4 browns take a terrestrial, but the other 6 off the dropper. A 12 trout morning, not too shabby. Fall is approaching and I’m getting full for trout trips. My November 1 thru 16 steelhead season is also soon to come. Still dates available.
