Yellow Breeches, 05/31/25-06/01/25

The eagerly awaited CVFF women’s fly fishing event was finally here. Kristin and I have become the best of friends and she is kind of running things now. Hard to believe the fly fisher she has become. It was a little less than a year since I taught her how to cast, etc. Now she ties her own flies. That becomes another story. The water was perfect, however a major rain storm came in Friday night lasting till 2AM. It turned most all SCPA streams into chocolate milk. Still the event went on. Saturday Ben John and I had 6 wonderful women on the water. We tied swinging big dark streamers in slack water and also worked the banks. They did move a few. With the experience lever of some, Big Springs really was not an option. So we hit the “Run” and Ben and I were able to work with the lesser experienced and the experienced still had a blast. They all flat out loved our effort and had a blast. All caught multiple trout before we ended at 4PM.

So Sunday, I had a group of three and my bestie “Kristin” was with us. The upper breeches came down enough making nymph fishing perfect. The water was stained and only 50 degrees. We fished nymphs off indicators, but takes were so light, I had to change to wool indicators. Still, takes were hard to detect. They missed several and landed some. Kristin was picking up a bunch on a fly she tied. Soon they all were using this fly and I was running back and forth netting trout. I can’t tell you how many I landed. It made for some funny comments on the stream and I loved every minute of it. Too see the transformation like with someone I taught is cool. Plus all other than two beginners, man those ladies could fish. The bite slowed up and all had to leave. Needless to say, with Kristin its coming. I can’t wait to see the video. I was handed a new fly. She has called it the “Mike’s Envy”.

Possibly two more great trips yet this year with them. One is a done deal for November Steelhead. Several of the women want to fish my private water in October. Oh man, I can’t wait!!
