Man finally back on my boyhood water. I’m more excited to be on Antietam, but this is my close second. Dakota is new to fly fishing, but he said he could cast well. It was a morning of learning and showing him where he could fish under the sunny and warm skies. The water was low, clear and 58 degrees. Saw a few rising trout, but sun put all trout to bottom feeding. So we hit the water around 8:30AM with dry/droppers. Casting was the major issue. So, we decided to split the full day up. I worked on his cast till he new what he was doing wrong. So, I taught him how to effectively fish with nymph set-ups. Beginner, “Wow”, never have I seen someone who could read water and position themself correctly. The nymph fishing was like he did it before. Now next time around we work on the delicate dry fly fishing. Dakota will get the accuracy down and make less cast to reach feeding trout. With that said, he still went on to nail 5 rainbows and lost a very nice 15+ rainbow we watch feeding in the shallow water. It was such a great morning.
