It was a bitter sweet trip for Don and Gordon. They came in on Monday and we met and I showed them where we allow guest to fish in the evening before their guided trip. They flat out loved the farmhouse and the water. We were looking at the weather and I told them better fish. So they did and they landed 7 wild browns. Whi;e we were all in bed almost 4 inches of rain fell from 10PM until 6AM. Yea, unfortunately Tuesday was a bust. I was upset, but it did not bother them. They hung out and walked the property and just loved the idea that I had put them on some of the best trout water around even though they had been here before.
Wednesday came and I was there at 7:30AM and it was game on. The water dropped sharply. It was stained and only 48 degrees. I did see a few caddis, but all hatches in the area are messed up with the weather. I knew it would be a streamer and nymph day. Don fished Euro all day, Gordon with less experience fish nymphs off indicators. The bite was tough. The trout were still shook up with the flow and drop in water temperatures. The takes were very light which Gordon missed at least 10. He did get three in the net. Don hooked a huge one easily a 24 inch trout. It popped off in the swift water. Don ended up bringing 10 nice browns and rainbows to the net. They both are hoping Gordon will be back in PA next year. This is the only water they want to fish together.
